Soulful tribute
THE ADVANTAGE of the age of re-mixes and digital remastering, is
that we can be sure that the `golden oldies' are never forgotten.
They continue to live- sometimes (painfully distorted) with jazz
and rock beats in the background, but they have indeed survived
even in the original form.
It is especially delightful to hear connoisseurs of music
reproduce the strains that have been sung by legends. Even
without the aid of technology. It certainly is more interesting
to listen to a band of old faithfuls, trying to render justice to
the music of the past and honour the makers of this music.
The Rooplyn Music Circle, which was founded three years ago is
one of those organisations that deserve thanks. Dedicated to the
promotion of music and fine arts, they have presented several
musical evenings in honour of artists, among them, O. P. Nayyar,
Naushad, Madan Mohan and Salil Chowdhry.
The latest in their repertoire is an evening dedicated to the
music of the noted Hindi and Bengali singer, Manna Dey. The
troupe, consisting of Anand Madhavan, Surojit Guha, Sujit
Dyaneshwar, Sudha Rao, Lakshmi and Kriti will present some
memorable songs from the Manna Dey kitty, including `Poochona
Kaise', `Tu Pyar ka Sagar hai', `Yeh Rath Bhigi Bhigi' and `Kaun
Aya'.
The group will be joined by a guest singer from Calcutta,
Biswajit, who will render the Bengali numbers. The show will be
held on April 2, at the Music Academy Mini Hall at 6-30 p.m.
