Jubilee fete of Sino-Indian ties begin
BEIJING, MARCH 29. India and China today kicked off joint
activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations, with a banquet attended by top Chinese
diplomats and generals.
The banquet, hosted by the Indian Ambassador Mr. Vijay K.
Nambiar, was attended by the Chinese Vice-Premier, Mr. Qian
Qichen, the Vice-Foreign Minister, Mr. Yang Wenchang, the Vice-
Chief of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), Lt. Gen. Xiong
Guangkai, senior Ministers, ex- diplomats, academicians and media
personnel.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, Mr. Tang Jiaxuan, has said Beijing
hopes the 50th anniversary celebrations would help strengthen
Sino-Indian relations. ``We hope that the joint celebration of
the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
would provide us with a good opportunity to move our bilateral
relations forward.''
The main event of the celebrations would be the State visit of
the Indian President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan, to China in May.
