Setting up of academy: Marsh to meet Muthiah
MUMBAI, MARCH 29. Rodney Marsh, former Australian wicketkeeper
and now head coach of the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide,
will meet the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in
India, Mr A.C. Muthiah, in Chennai tomorrow in connection with
the BCCI's proposed National Cricket Academy.
Marsh is expected to speak to Mr Muthiah about the functioning of
the Australian Cricket Academy and discuss the modalities of
setting up a similar institution in India.
The BCCI had stated that the Academy would begin functioning by
May, most probably in Bangalore. Marsh comes to India following a
communication from Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, in his
capacity as a member of the committee constituted to set up the
Indian academy.
The committee consists of Gavaskar, former BCCI president, Mr Raj
Singh Dungarpur, Brijesh Patel and Hanumant Singh, with Polly
Umirgar as a co- opted member.
It is learnt that the name of former Western Australia coach
Darryl Foster has been suggested as one of the contenders for the
post of head coach for the Academy, while former India batsman
Hanumant Singh has been tipped for the post of director.
