Cong. yet to decide on Bihar, says Manmohan

DHANBAD, APRIL 5. The senior Congress(I) leader, Dr. Manmohan Singh, today said his party was yet to take a stand on the political situation in Bihar after the Chief Minister, Ms. Rabri Devi, was granted bail and the RJD president, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, sent to jail in a disproportionate asset case. The Congress would draw up a strategy at any time.

In Lucknow, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) vice- president, Ms. Mayawati, today said her party would continue to support the Rabri Devi Government. Talking to newspersons here, Ms. Mayawati, said it was not proper to demand the resignation of Ms. Rabri Devi. If she must resign, then the BJP leaders chargesheeted in the Ayodhya case must also step down from office.

The BJP today asked the Congress(I) to clarify how they could continue to support the Bihar Government. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati today, the party general secretary, Mr. Narendra Modi, said,``the same Congress had set high moral standards when Mr. Madhavrao Scindia resigned for being chargesheeted in hawala scandal, and the Congress had also made a rule of not giving ticket to any chargesheeted person.''

In Jaipur, the BJP national general secretary, Mr. K. N. Govindacharya, today said that Ms. Rabri Devi should resign from her post, despite getting bail. Ruling out the possibility of the NDA trying to form a Government in Bihar again, he said comparing Ms. Rabri Devi's case with that of the Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, was not proper. While the case against Mr. Advani was registered on a ``political basis'', the Bihar Chief Minister was facing charges of a criminal nature.
