Dog show for a global audience

PET CARE is the latest to enter cyberworld. A Chennai-based Chemical Engineer Mr. R. Padmachandran along with his relative Dr. Suresh Bhimsing, has created a website on dog care. The site goes into such aspects of having a pet dog, as breeding, alphabetical list of dogs (worldwide), feeding schedule for puppies, how to choose a puppy etc.

The new website www.dogsindia.com has started functioning and been visited by more than 8,000 people says Mr. Padmachandran.

It is a first in a unique sense too. The website has content on mongrels and pedigree in the Indian context. The site was created out of sheer interest on dogs and it took nearly six months to get information on various aspects of breeding.

Quite a few interesting tips are part of the site, for those who want to adopt a puppy.

Choosing the pup according to the available floor area, quality or habits of male or female puppy, the breed either pedigree or a mongrel, feeding schedule for the pet and training the pets to avoid spoiling the house, are the topics covered under `Puppy Care' in the site.

Many people think that the pets should be fed with beef and mutton, which is not correct. This point has been proved with suggestions from a book written by activist-Minister Ms. Maneka Gandhi on keeping a vegetarian dog.

Breeding information for more than 200 dog breeds with a breeder's directory and a showcase of dog breeders have been created. Similarly the site has listed various veterinary services available in the different states with the names of veterinarians and their address.

Yet another speciality of this site is the links sections which connects one to internationally recognised kennel clubs, veterinary sites and FAQ sites.

If the idea is to sell or buy a puppy or adult dog, the classified column comes in handy. In an effort to help animals in distress, the site has also listed various animal welfare organisations functioning in the city and their address with phone numbers.

With their experience in dog breeding and showing, both Mr. Padmachandran and Dr. Suresh Bhimsing have decided to help animal welfare activists and the concerned citizen in the quest to eliminate rabies, through medical camps for stray dogs.
