Shoot orders in Tripura
AGARTALA, APRIL 13. Curfew has been imposed and shoot-at-sight
orders issued by the west Tripura district administration as the
situation in Jirania worsened due to ethnic clashes since Monday,
official sources said here.
Curfew was imposed at 10 p.m. yesterday as ethnic violence
continued for the third day. The curfew would be extended if the
situation did not improve, police said.
The orders were issued in the Jirania police station area where
more than 500 huts belonging to 250 families of both tribals and
non-tribals were burnt. The violence began on Monday morning
after a tribal youth sustained a bomb injury at Chakbasta.
Police have arrested 28 people in connection with the arson,
which has claimed one life so far. Police opened fire and
resorted to lathicharge in several places to disperse the mob.
Additional Assam Rifles, CRPF, Tripura State Rifles and Tripura
police personnel have been deployed in the trouble-torn areas.
