Computer-studies @right fees
THIS SUMMER, here's a ``summer computer education programme''
with a difference. Surprise, for the fees are less. Thanks to
funding from the members of Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF) of USA,
the summer computer courses come with an ``affordable'' tag.
``We want to make sure that no student leaves school without
learning the basics of computers,'' Mr. P. Chandrasekaran,
Secretary of TNF, TN Chapter says.
TNF that usually charges Rs. 600 for 20 contact hours, has
further slashed fees to Rs. 150 for training in the basics
computer concepts, Windows 98 and MS-Word.
The fee system is devised to facilitate computer education for
poor students studying of classes XI and XII.
The fees, however are more for batches with lesser children.
While 40 students form a batch for the Rs. 150 fee module, it is
Rs. 200 for 20 hours for a student in the 30 student batch and
Rs. 300 per student for the 20 student batch.
TNF also offers courses of 40 hours covering more packages such
as MS-Excel and MS-Powerpoint, courses teaching students to work
on Financial Accounting Package, MS-Access and MS-Outlook.
Inspite of the lower pricing, and the funds to accommodate 1000
participants, the programme is yet to pick up, due to lack of
awareness.
The Tamil Nadu Foundation hence also aims to organise awareness
programmes for children at Anna University every week, free of
cost, with a registration fee of Rs. 5.
While the response from many Corporation school students has been
positive, there are more admissions open at the TNF computer
centre. More details can be had from Mr. Chandrasekaran at 9,
Taylors Road, Kilpauk or Phone: 6446319.
