Some 'Pak. religious groups may face ban'
ISLAMABAD, APRIL 14. The Pakistani Interior Minister, Mr.
Moinuddin Haider, has said the Government could ban religious
groups found involved in terrorism.
The warning came after an attack on a gathering of Shiite Muslims
in which 15 people were killed on Tuesday in a village in the
country's central Punjab province. On April 1, a Shiite leader,
his son and driver were gunned down in Karachi.
The Minister, quoted by the official Associated Press of
Pakistan, said on Thursday that sectarian groups and parties
indulging in terrorism would be declared illegal.``So far three
to four sectarian parties have been found involved in terrorism
and violence-prone activities,'' he said, without identifying
them.
Troops on alert
Reports from Karachi said that the Army has been placed on alert
to beef up security to maintain law and order amid increasing
sectarian tensions.
