Leaders pay homage to Dr. Ambedkar

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 14. The Chief Minister, Mr. P. Shanmugham,
Minister, Mr. P. Kannan, legislators of Congress (I), TMC,
AIADMK, CPI, Deputy Speaker, Mr. M. Kandasamy, and other leaders
today paid homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, on the occasion of his
109th birth anniversary .
Mr. Shanmugham and others garlanded the statue of Dr. Ambedkar in
Bharathi Park, opposite the Assembly building. Among those who
paid floral tributes were the Chairman of the Khadi and Village
Industries Board, Mr. S. Manohar, TMC general secretary, Mr. K.
Lakshminarayanan and Chairman of Pondicherry Planning Authority,
Mr. Iyyanarappan. Minister-designate, Mr. N. Rangasamy and former
Agriculture Minister, Mr. R. Viswanathan, also paid tributes to
the leader.
Mr. Shanmugham and Mr. Kannan accompanied by a large number of
volunteers and representatives of various organisations then
visited to Dr. Ambedkar Manimandapam, which was opened during the
previous regime.
The former Chief Minister, Mr. R.V. Janakiraman, who was waiting
with his followers, some distance away from the statue in
Bharathi Park, garlanded the statue only after Mr. Shanmugham and
others left for the memorial.
Slogans recalling the services of the leader were raised by
volunteers of various organisations of the Scheduled Caste and
Scheduled Tribe.
The PMK founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, also garlanded the statue of
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, in Uppalam in the outskirts of Boulevard
limits. The PMK legislators, Mr. S. Ramsingh and Mr. M. Manjini
and volunteers were among those who accompanied Dr. Ramadoss.
The president of BJP Pondicherry State committee, Mr. A.M.
Krishnamoorthy along with Mr. S.P. Veerappan, Mr. M. Viswesaran,
Mr. Damodaran and members of different wings of the party
garlanded Dr. Ambedkar's statue in Bharathi Park.
