Three from Kerala selected for NCA

MUMBAI, APRIL 14.The first one-day international played between India and South Africa at Kochi has proved to be a boon for three Kerala bowlers who have been selected in the first batch of 24 players for the National Cricket Academy. They may be unfamiliar to the cricketing world, but it appears India's coach Kapil Dev was quite impressed with them who bowled to the Indian team at Kochi. The three Kerala players in the first list are T. Yohanan, Fazal Mohammad and Prashant Chandra Menon. According to sources, the NCA committee will pick a second batch which will be for players in the age group between 16 and 19.

The 24 selected by the NCA committee are: Gautam Gambhir (Delhi), L. R. Shukla (Bengal), Yuvraj Singh (Punjab), Harbhajan Singh (Punjab), Salabh Srivastava (Uttar Pradesh), T. Yohanan (Kerala), Zaheer Khan (Baroda), Rakesh Patel (Baroda), Niraj Patel (Gujarat), S. S. Das (Orissa), Romesh Powar (Mumbai), Ajay Ratra (Haryana), Mohammad Kaif (Uttar Pradesh), Nikhil Haldipur (Bengal), Sarandeep Singh (Punjab), M. Diwakar (Bihar), Reetinder Singh Sodhi (Punjab), M. Karthik (Railways), Anshu Jain (Rajasthan), Anup Dave (Rajasthan), Prashant Chandra Menon (Kerala), Fazal Mohammad (Kerala), R. Jahlani (Rajasthan), S. Sriram (Tamil Nadu).
