APCC chief lashes out at Jairam Ramesh

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 16. The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today launched a blistering attack on Mr. Jairam Ramesh, member of the AICC economic affairs cell, for his ``uncalled for association'' with the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, by agreeing to be on the State economic advisory council and backing out subsequently.

``I do not know what vested interests he has in Andhra Pradesh. But, all his efforts and actions seem to be aimed at helping Mr. Naidu. I wonder what kind of links they have with each other?'' Dr. Reddy said at a press conference.

Referring to Mr. Ramesh's statement that the APCC proposal to give free power supply to the farmers was not possible, Dr. Reddy sought to know whether the former was aware of the Congress high command's nod for the same. ``The AICC vetted the proposal and okayed its inclusion in the Congress manifesto during the last Assembly elections taking into consideration the unprecedented number of suicides committed by farmers. I hope Mr. Ramesh is aware of that,'' he said.

``We're ignoring him. Only a few newspapers seem to be keen on promoting him. What can I say about a person who likens the relationship between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to that of India and Pakistan. I am uncomfortable even to say that he is an Indian citizen. What more can I say about him'', he said bitterly, adding that there was no need whatsoever to take him seriously.
