Ganguly flops; injured

LONDON, APRIL 16. Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly flopped on his county debut at Old Trafford on Saturday - making a duck - with a wrist injury adding to his woes though Lancashire posted an eight- wicket victory over Nottinghamshire in the Benson and Hedges Cup.

The left-hander's innings lasted just six balls before Andy Harris got some extra bounce and Ganguly tamely directed a catch to Jason Gallian at first slip.

Wearing two fleeces against the cold, Ganguly had an injury to add to his woes as he bruised his wrist going for a return catch offered by Usman Afzaal.

He bowled his quota of 10 overs at a cost of 38 runs as Notts made 164 for seven from their 50 overs.

But Lancashire captain John Crawley said, ``I have every sympathy with him. He has just arrived in the country and has had to cope with the cold weather, and he got a very good ball.

``It can happen to anyone. We are certainly not worried about it. He is a great batsman.''

Crawley took the pressure off Ganguly by slamming 61 off 88 balls and former England skipper Mike Atherton finished unbeaten on 81 as Lancashire passed the Notts total with eight wickets and 19 balls to spare.
