New horizons, new hopes for KSCA juniors
BANGALORE, APRIL 16. The Karnataka State Cricket Association has
opened up new horizons for its young cricketers. A first-ever
tour by an under-19 State side will see this group of cricketers
wing their way to Singapore and Sri Lanka and play matches from
April 18 to 30 with fledglings from those countries. The tour has
been made a possibility thanks to sponsorship from Compaq and
TIFY of Global Green Company Ltd.
Announcing the details of this pioneering tour, Mr. Brijesh
Patel, Secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association,
said, ``It is a wonderful opportunity for cricketers who are on
the threshold of their careers. I hope that many from this young
side go on to don State and National caps. The tour will give
them first hand experience of playing on foreign wickets and
should be a great learning opportunity.''
Speaking on behalf of the Sponsors, Mr. Bringi Dev, Marketing
Manager of Compaq, said, ``Compaq is happy to encourage
youngsters and if these cricketers with potential need to go to
other countries and further their game, they should not be
hampered by lack of funds.'' The KSCA under-19 team will play
four 50-overs-a-side matches in Singapore from April 19 to 23 and
then proceed to Sri Lanka where the squad will play five matches
(including a practice match and a two-day game) against the Sri
Lankan boys. Incidentally, the KSCA under-19 team played a match
against a visiting Australian Club team and won the fixture here
on April 15.
