Centre for fresh talks on Periyar dam issue
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI, APRIL 28. The Centre today submitted to the Supreme
Court that it would persuade the Kerala and Tamil Nadu
Governments to hold further talks in the presence of the Union
Minister for Water Resources with a view to reaching an amicable
solution on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue.
Mr. Harish Salve, Solicitor General, made this submission during
the resumed hearing of a petition from the Janata Party
President, Dr. Subramanian Swamy , after the Bench headed by the
Chief Justice, Dr. A.S. Anand, observed that it might be more
fruitful if both the parties engaged in talks in the presence of
a third party.
