Younis Khan, Md. Akram corner glory
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA, APRIL 30. A blistering unbeaten century by
Younis Khan and a five-wicket haul by paceman Mohammad Akram left
Pakistan in command of its four-day match against the West Indies
Under-23 on Saturday.
Akram bagged five for 16 in a paltry Under-23 total of 143 then
split the opening pair second time around to leave the host the
unenviable task of scoring 317 to win on the final day.
Under-23 captain Darren Ganga was Akram's early victim as his
team struggled to 12 for one at close. He was trapped leg before
for four, having fallen to the same bowler for five in the first
innings.
Younis had encountered no such problems as he led Pakistan to 172
for four declared in its second innings, 328 ahead.
He blasted five 6s and nine 4s in his attacking 103. His century
arrived in 177 minutes off 133 balls and was achieved with a six
over mid-wicket off leg-spinner Camilus Alexander.
Akram also removed Marlon Samuels (2), Wayne Phillips (8) and
Camilus Alexander (0) while conceding just one run in the rain-
shortened opening session, then completed his tally when he
dismissed tail-ender Pedro Collins (0).
The scores:
Pakistan 299 (Yousuf Youhana 81, Mohammad Wasim 59) and 172 for
four decl. (Mohammad Wasim 25, Younis Khan 103 not out, Shahid
Afridi 25) vs West Indies Under-23 143 (A. Haniff 46, S. Joseph
45, Mohammad Akram five for 16) and 12 for one.
