PM to meet INS representatives on May 10
CALCUTTA, MAY 7. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
has called a meeting with the Indian Newspaper Society (INS)
tentatively on May 10 to discuss the latest situation regarding
the Manisana Wageboard for working journalists and non-
journalists in newspapers and news-agencies, according to the
Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Muni Lall.
``The Prime Minister will meet the representatives of INS to
discuss the wageboard proceedings to hammer out a solution
satisfactory to both the management and the employees,'' the
Minister told PTI today. The Government had granted the wageboard
a three-month extension up to June 30, 2000 to submit its final
report.
``We had fixed a deadline for the Commission to submit the final
report by March 31. However, the extension was given after
Justice Manisana sought more time,'' he said. Asked about the INS
moving court on the report, the Minister said, ``in a democracy,
everybody has a right to move the court, but the Government would
not allow the wageboard to be jeopardised''.
