Vigil intensified off Mandapam coast

RAMANATHAPURAM, MAY 8. Mr. D. S. Basra, Commanding-in-chief, Southern Air Command, visited Rameswaram and held discussions with officials of the Mandapam Coast Guard Station and Mr. T. K. Ramachandran, District Collector, on Monday in view of the ongoing war in the northern Jaffna peninsula.

The Forest Department has also intensified patrolling in the islands in the Gulf of Mannar, said Mr. Ashok Upreti, Wildlife Warden. Talking to mediapersons here, he said officials would conduct a round-the-clock vigil in all the islands in the Gulf of Mannar.
