Over 54 p.c. students pass SSC exam

HYDERABAD, MAY 8. As many as 283,638 of the 520,641 regular and
122,473 of the 370,618 private candidates who appeared for the
SSC examination in March this year have passed. Prakasam district
tops the list with 71.71 per cent, while Anantapur is placed
lowest at 40.57 per cent. The pass percentage of the regular
candidates is 54.48 as against 52.72 last year. The pass
percentage of private candidates is 33.05.
Releasing the results here on Monday, the Minister for School
Education, Mr. K. Srihari, said that of the 303,488 boys who
appeared for the examination as regulars, 80,638 secured first
division, 55,619 second and 28,164 third. Among the 217,153 girls
who sat for the exam, 63,650 got first division, 39,159 second
and 16,407 third. Among the private candidates, 250,177 boys and
120,091 girls appeared for the examination. Of the boys, 25,877
passed in first division, 13,852 in second and 5.280 in third
division.
The Minister said the achievement of girls was higher by 0.72 per
cent than boys in the regular category and 5.89 per cent in the
private category. As many as 170 schools, 125 of them private,
secured 100 per cent results, followed by 23 Zilla Parishad, 14
residential and eight government schools. As many as 68 schools,
among them 29 zilla parishad, 21 private and 17 government, had
zero per cent results.
He said the candidates could obtain computerised extract of the
dummy mark list on payment of Rs. 10 by cash from counters
installed at Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Warangal, Ongole, Nellore,
Tirupati, Kurnool, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Nizamabad,
Visakhapatnam, Anantapur, Khammam, Medak and Guntur from May 9 to
13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Separate counters have been opened for women. Marks of any
district could be secured from any of the counters. No extract of
marks would be issued for OSSC, vocational examinations,
malpractice and with- held cases.
Mr. Srihari stated that the supplementary examination would be
held from May 31 to June 13 at 10 am daily. Failed candidates
should appear without waiting for the results of recounting. May
20 is the last date for remittance of examination fee for the
supplementary examination.
Pass certificates and failed memoranda will be despatched to the
institutions concerned within 15 days. The SSC Board would make
available the marks extract sheets of the failed candidates to
the sponsoring high schools by May 11.
Those who desire to get their marks re-totalled should pay Rs. 50
per subject through the government treasury.
The Minister explained that the procedure for recounting had been
modified to expedite the process. First priority for recounting
would be given to failed candidates. Efforts were being made to
give by May 30 the results of recounting for failed candidates
who applied before May 17.
For those wanting recounting after May 17 the results would be
intimated within six weeks from the date of application. The last
date for receipt of application for recounting would be June 7.
