No change in UDF leadership: convener
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 10. The UDF convener, Mr. K.
Sankaranarayanan, today categorically stated that there was no
move for a change in the UDF leadership.
Replying to questions at a press conference, Mr. Sankaranarayanan
said that none of the UDF constituents had raised the leadership
issue at the high-power committee meeting held this morning. ``I
don't know anything about the news reports regarding the
leadership change. Neither was it raised at today's meeting.
Besides, there is not going to be any change in the leadership,''
he asserted.
Mr. Sankaranarayanan was reacting to news reports that the IUML
would press for a change in the leadership of the UDF.
Mr. Sankaranarayanan said that the UDF was satisfied with the
steps taken so far regarding ending all unholy alliances in local
bodies, even though a few panchayats continued to be problematic.
He recalled that the previous UDF meeting had set April 30 as
deadline for ending the unholy alliances. ``This would be sorted
out without any delay. The State leaders of the affected parties
have been directed to take the appropriate action to sort out the
problems.,'' he added.
Besides, the UDF partners would hold bilateral discussions to
settle differences,if any. He said that the committee did not
discuss the question of the Rajya Sabha seat.
