Gangsters shot dead
MUMBAI, MAY 14. Three dreaded gangsters belonging to the
notorious Abu Salem faction of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, were shot
dead in an encounter with the police in Bandra, in north-west
Mumbai on Friday night.
The police laid a trap after a tip-off that these gangsters were
coming to meet some film stars and political leaders, sources
said.
The police team spotted them near Palima building in Bandra and
asked them to surrender.
The gangsters started firing and the police returned the fire, in
which three of the gang members were injured seriously, while the
fourth one managed to escape.
The three injured gangsters were rushed to Bhaba hospital in
Bandra where they were declared dead before admission.
Police recovered two revolvers, one country-made revolver, four
live cartridges and six empty cartridges from them, the sources
said adding that the Bandra police have registered a case and
further investigations are in progress.
