ECIL takes to IT education in a big way
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MAY 14. The Electronic Corporation of India (ECIL),
which started its computer education division in 1995, now
intends to enter commercial IT education in a big way. The
division has been restructured and its education product
christened as ``ECIT'', with a distinct product logo created to
position ECIT products in the market.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. V. H.
Ron, Chairman and Managing Director, ECIL, said it had targeted
an income of Rs. 100 crores from IT education in the next three
years, as against Rs. 10 crores now.
The thrust of ECIT will be franchisee network in Uttar Pradesh,
Orissa, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, and West Bengal. It already has
a tie-up with BDPS, in addition to seven franchisee centres in
Hyderabad. It also plans to reach out to countries like
Bangladesh and other SAARC countries, besides West Asia and third
world countries.
Mr. Ron said they were also tying up with Osmania University and
Central University of Hyderabad to add value to their courses.
The education division based in Hyderabad will be the centre of
excellence and develop curriculum and the expertise needed to
give ECIT a lead in IT education. In a few months, they also hope
to have tie-ups with Microsoft and Novell.
