Scotland Yard ends inquiry

MUMBAI, MAY 14. The two Scotland Yard detectives, sergeant Martin Hawkins and chief constable Bruce Horbury on Saturday concluded their investigations in relation to British cricketer Chris Lewis' match fixing allegations made in 1999 and flew back home.

They had come here from Delhi during which they investigated Lewis' claim that Delhi based sports promoter Aushim Kheterpal had offered a huge amount to him to contact England players for throwing a match.

The detectives were here for five days during which they met Board of Control for Cricket in India's former president Raj Singh Dungarpur, executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar and other BCCI officials.

Diwadkar told newsmen here that BCCI assisted the detectives in anyway that they could with their ongoing enquiries and have established a good working relationship. BCCI will continue to assist them in respect to these allegations in future, he added.

Incidentally last week the English Cricket Board found no truth in Lewis' allegations that few of its cricketers were approached for match fixing.
