Simon Dyson clinches title

MACAU, MAY 14. Gaurav Ghei jumped seven places to finish fifth even as English rookie Simon Dyson won the $ 200,000 Macau Open title at the Macau Golf and Country Club here on Sunday.

Ghei shot four-under 67 on the final day to aggregate eight-under 276, which earned him $ 8,000. Dyson also had a 67 for a 15-under 269 and the top prize of $ 32,300. The 22-year-old Englishman had a two-stroke leeway from last year's runner-up Andrew Pitts of the US and Korean Yang Yong-Eun, who split the second prize. American star Mark O'Meara finished fourth, five behind Dyson.

Amandeep Johl, who shared the 12th place with Ghei on Saturday, slipped two rungs as he compiled a 73 on the last day for a total of 282. Among the other Indians, Jyoti Randhawa (285) shared the 25th position and Harmeet Kahlon (288) tied for the 38th slot. Vivek Bhandari (292) shared the 55th place, Digvijay Singh (293) tied for the 59th place and Amritinder Singh (296) was joint 62nd.

``It's a big day for me. In enjoyed it. They always say the first is the hardest. I hope it comes easier next time. I was striking it good from the start which gave me confidence,'' said Dyson.

A pumped-up Pitts made a late charge to slot in eagles on the 13th and 18th and in the process equalled Dyson's first- round course record of 64.
