J&K Minister, 4 others killed in blast
The Jammu and Kashmir Minister of
State for Power, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Bhat, and four others were
killed in a powerful IED explosion near Mandipore in Anantnag
district this morning.
Chandrika buoyant after air strikes
Politics overtook warfare in Sri Lanka today as

Amended IT Bill tabled in LS
Overriding objections from the Opposition, the
Government today introduced the Information Technology Bill in
the Lok Sabha incorporating all but two amendments suggested by
the Parliamentary Standing Committee. The two amendments that are
not part of the new Bill are seen as a response to pressure from
the industry.
India to tread cautiously
As the Government endures the competing
pressures on its policy towards the Sri Lankan crisis, there is a
strong determination here that India should not rush into the
conflict with ill- conceived military or diplomatic initiatives.
Ram Janmabhhomi trust chief injured in blast
The Ram Janmabhoomi Trust acting chairman,
Paramhans Ram Chandra Das, and ten others, including two security
personnel, sustained injuries in an explosion near the Faizabad
District Hospital today.
Pak. set to explode another bomb?
Pakistan is believed to have made all
preparations to carry out its seventh nuclear test in Chagai.
The Islamabad daily, Pakistan Observer, said the preparations
come in the wake of intelligence reports that ``India is all set
to explode a hydrogen bomb in Pokhran very soon.''
T-90 tanks, AJTs soon: Fernandes
India will soon acquire T-90 tanks and the
Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft, the Defence Minister, Mr.
George Fernandes, informed the Rajya Sabha today.
BJP's cup of woes in U.P. overflows
The BJP in Uttar Pradesh is in turmoil - there
is speculation that the central leadership is about to change the
Chief Minister, the party's allies in the State Government have
threatened to withdraw support, and the party today decided to
postpone its State organisational elections scheduled for
completion on May 21.
Check 'saffronisation' of education, Sonia tells NSUI
The Congress(I) president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi,
today called upon the National Students Union of India (NSUI) to
resist attempts by the BJP to ``saffronise'' education which was
reflected in changes made in syllabi as well as in research and
training institutions.
