SAARC judicial leaders to meet annually
By Haroon Habib
DHAKA, MAY 15. Prominent judicial figures of South Asian
countries have decided to continue their discussions for the
development of the judiciary in the region.
At the end of the two-day ``Preliminary Meeting for a South Asian
Regional Judicial Colloquium Series'' here on Sunday, they agreed
to meet every year to share ideas and experiences and to protect
human rights by ensuring access of justice to all, the poor in
particular.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Justices of Bangladesh,
India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and senior judges and leading
advocates. Pakistan was represented by two judges.
The Chief Justice of India, Dr. A. S. Anand, referred to ``Lok
Adalat'' and said this court was a success in India. He proposed
that the Indian model could be adopted by other SAARC countries
as well.
