Time ripe to nab Prabhakaran: Swamy

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MAY 16. The Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, today urged the Centre to take advantage of the current situation in Sri Lanka to arrest the LTTE leaders, Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman, who are proclaimed offenders in the Rajiv assassination case,.

Talking to presspersons, he said this was the ``right time'' to send commandos to Jaffna to hunt for the LTTE leaders. The Multi- Disciplinary Monitoring Agency, he pointed out, was created with the primary purpose of nabbing the two. Asking the Centre to declare that it would not negotiate with the LTTE, he said any ``interlopers'' in the crisis must be told that they should help find Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman and not legitimize them. The Government must use all its leverage with Sri Lanka to ensure that the island adopted an Indian-type federal Constitution. ``Only then we must despatch a division strength to Colombo'' to help Sri Lanka fight the LTTE. The Indian Army should have a presence in Colombo while taking on the LTTE in Jaffna so that India was not betrayed like before, he added.

Dr. Swamy demanded the resignation of the Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani, following the killing of a Jammu and Kashmir Minister yesterday. In this context, he said, the ``capitulation'' of the Prime Minister in agreeing to talk to secessionists and terrorists was ``shameful.''
