Govt. 'neglecting' backward communities

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, MAY 16. The Madhya Pradesh Government was today charged with neglecting the hopes and aspirations of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward communities by speakers at a special convention of the SC/ST, backward and minority communities here.

The convention acquires significance since the former State PWD Minister and Congress(I) MLA from Shahdol, Mr. Bisahulal Singh, and former Health Minister, Mr. Prem Narayan Thakur, were its main organisers and the Deputy Chief Minister, Ms. Jamuna Devi, at least six ruling party MLAs, and some former State Ministers representing the deprived sections were among those who participated in it.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Bisahulal Singh said that this event should not be construed as an attempt to open a political front against the State Government. The objective was to ensure that constitutional rights of the SC/ST communities were protected, he added.

Mr. Bisahulal Singh said that any one who fought for the rights of the weaker sections ``either gets crushed or every attempt is made to finish him.''

The State unit president of the All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations and head of Anusuchit Jati Janjati Adhikari Karmchari Sangh (AJJAKS), Mr. C. P. Sainia, said those belonging to the SC/ST and other backward communities were getting a raw deal in Madhya Pradesh. Mr. Sainia, a gazetted Government officer, and served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) with the Chief Minister, Mr. Digvijay Singh, said the present Government was being protective towards officers and employees belonging to the so- called upper castes whereas it was being harsh and vindictive towards those from the weaker sections.
