Bindra receives questionaire
NEW DELHI, MAY 16. Former cricket board chief I.S. Bindra on
Tuesday said the CBI had given him a questionaire based on his
360-page report and he would be replying soon.
``They gave me a questionaire and I will be sending reply soon,''
Bindra told PTI here, a day after he submitted his report to the
investigating agency.
He said he would be extending all possible help to the agency in
order to end the match-fixing scandal in the game. However, there
was no official word from CBI over this.
He also claimed that he had voiced his concern over ``masala
matches'' being played in off-shore countries in 1997 and had
demanded cancellation of all further commitments to these
countries.
``Let the BCCI reveal the minutes of the meeting held in 1997
when I, after visiting Toronto, voiced my concern and demanded
cancellation of all Indian commitments in places like Toronto
(Canada), Sharjah (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Singapore,''
Bindra told PTI, a day after submitting his report to to the CBI.
He said his report submitted to the agency, generally dealt with
the incidence of ``special favour given to TV companies while
selling coverage rights, mushrooming growth of masala
(exhibition) and thaila (money raising) matches in these off-
shore countries, which have been the cause of rot-setting in
cricket''.
Bindra alleged that cricketers are never serious about the game
while playing in these countries. He expressed the hope that the
CBI would be able to get more information about the match-fixing
scandal.
Referring to the Kapil Dev controversy, Bindra said he had only
revealed what Manoj Prabhakar had conveyed to him.
``I have nothing against Kapil and I am not aware of the
relationship shared between Prabhakar and Kapil... And moreover
Home Minister L.K. Advani had also said the same thing in
Nagpur... Why hold me guilty,'' Bindra asked.
