OU teachers seek fresh recruitments

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MAY 20. The Osmania University Teachers' Association (OUTA) has taken objection to the alleged move of the university to adjust the courses to the strength of the existing staff rather than making more recruitments.

In a statement here, Mr. K. Purushotham Reddy, president, OUTA, and other office-bearers accused the university of working towards winding up few courses which were started with great vision by the earlier Vice-Chancellors and senior academics. They advised the university to convince the Government of the need for recruitment rather than adjusting the courses to the existing staff in the name of restructuring. "What will happen when most of these teachers retire in a few years," they questioned.

They also opposed the move to reduce the number of instruction hours when the need was to strengthen the academic courses to protect them from the onslaught of engineering and computer courses. "The present thinking would only result in the closure of the university," they felt.

The teachers also alleged that the administration was imposing its decisions in an undemocratic way on the Chairmen and Heads of various departments. How can the administration ignore OUTA, a representative body of the university teachers while taking such major decisions, the teachers questioned.

The present policy would have an adverse effect on the educational opportunities of the people in the backward Telangana, which ultimately would create social problems, they felt.
