'No Tobacco Week' from today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 24. The Regional Cancer Association would be observing the World No Tobacco Week from May 25 to May 31 in the city.

Announcing this at a press conference here today, the director of the Regional Cancer Centre, Dr. M. Krishnan Nair, said the `No Tobacco week' with the theme `Tobacco kills- Don't be duped' would be inaugurated by the principal Health Secretary, Mr. V. Vijayachandran, on May 25. Talks on the harmful effects of smoking, legislations to control smoking, and tobacco hazards would also be held on the day at the RCC Conference hall.

A discussion on the harmful effects of tobacco would be held at the Mithranikethan on May 26 and a workshop for the women social workers would be conducted on May 26. The Mayor, Mr. V. Sivankutty, would inaugurate a workshop for health inspector trainees on May 28. On May 31, the Additional Chief secretary, Dr. D. Babu Paul, would inaugurate a workshop for media persons at the RCC Conference hall. The Education Minister, Mr. P. J. Joseph, would be inaugurating the valedictory meeting on May 31 at the YMCA hall.

The secretary of the Regional Cancer Association, Mr. P. Janardana Iyer, and the head of the Community Oncology wing, RCC, Dr. Babu Mathew, also spoke.
