dated May 25 1950: Trygve Lie aiming for peace
Returning from Moscow after his visit aiming to bridge the gap
between the Western bloc and the Eastern, the U.N. Secretary-
General, M. Trygve Lie, was in London on May 23 and met the
British Prime Minister, Mr. Clement Attlee, and the Foreign
Secretary, Mr. Ernest Bevin. Earlier M. Lie had conferred in

Robert Schuman. The Secretary-General was discussing with leading

Premier Stalin, indicated France's caution in approaching the
suggestion. The statement issued by M. Schuman following his talk
with M. Lie, shows, however, that the French are favourable to
any move that might bring some sort of betterment of relations
between the East and West. But, at the same time, it is believed
that the French Foreign Minister made no promise to take the
initiative...''
