Odyssey Technologies' encryption products
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, MAY 28. Odyssey Technologies, an Internet security
company, has launched encryption products, comprising certrix
certification server, registrix registration server and
cryptomagic application toolkit.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Mr. B. Robert Raja,
chairman and managing director, said certrix and registrix
together offered a comprehensive system to issue and manage
digital signature certificates. Digital certificates were a pair
of electronic keys for its owners. The keys along with the
digital certificates would provide the users the means to execute
digital signatures as also to secure their communication over the
public Internet.
The security of communication is ensured by scrambling the
messages at the sender's end with one key and the intended
recipient would be able to unscramble it with the other key. The
scrambling process is called encryption and the entire system of
using dual keys to achieve the security is referred to as Public
Key Infrastructure or PKI.
He said Internet security issue was a stumbling block to the
impending boom in e-commerce and PKI had been seen as the most
efficient security solution. PKI finds application in any e-
commerce transaction such as payments systems, banking, stock
trading, secure tending, invoicing and contracting on the net.
Mr. Raja said the PKI market was at a nascent stage with the
earliest commercial PKI server being not more than two years old.
The global market was currently served by four players. PKI
products and integration services was a $650 million market in
1999 and is expected to exceed $2 billion in the current year.
