Pepsico to launch Aquafina mineral water in Chennai

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MAY 28. Pepsico India Holdings is set to enter the Chennai market with its Aquafina brand of mineral water next month.

Disclosing this, Mr. Varun Berry, Executive Vice-President of the company, told an informal gathering of select presspersons here that he expected the company to sell 50,000 cases (comprising 12 bottles) a month in Chennai.

To begin with, the Roha Maharashtra facility of Pepsico would service the Aquafina demand of Chennai market. Soon, Mr. Berry said, the company would set up a fresh line at its existing facility in Bangalore to manufacture Aquafina. Addition of Aquafina line, he said, would involve an investment outlay of around Rs. 6 crores. The 750 ml Aquafina bottle is priced at Rs. 10 a unit.

Mr. Berry indicated that Pepsico would not be making any profit by selling Aquafina in Chennai at the moment. Once the proposed additional line at Bangalore unit started servicing the Chennai market, then it would bring some profits to Pepsico, he pointed out.

Aquafina brand of mineral water has already been launched in Mumbai and Bangalore.
