DNA samples sent to Hyderabad
SRINAGAR, MAY 30. A spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir
Government's Department of Information has described as totally
incorrect the Hyderabad-datelined report published in TheHindu of
May 29, claiming that DNA samples of the five exhumed bodies from
Panchathan area of Anantnag district have not been received by
the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD),
Hyderabad.
The spokesman said that Kashmir police had sent the samples,
collected by a team of doctors headed by Dr. Balbir Kour of
Forensic Department, Government Medical College, Srinagar, for a
DNA test to the Central Forensic Laboratory, Calcutta, and CDFD,
Hyderabad, through special messengers. Dr. C. V. Rao, chief, DNA
Fingerprinting Laboratory, Hyderabad, vide his letter No.
CDFD/Ack/GV/2000/685, dated April 13, acknowledged the receipt of
the samples delivered through a messenger of the J&K Police.
Similarly, Dr. M. S. Rao, Director, Central Forensic Laboratory,
Calcutta, also acknowledged the receipt of the samples vide his
letter No. CFSL/EE/2000/Misc, dated April 14.
The spokesman said in view of these facts it is mischievous to
claim that the samples have not been received and that the case
is still pending with the Chief Minister for 50 days.
