30 p.c. cut in MTNL Internet tariffs
NEW DELHI, JUNE 9.The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL)
today announced up to 30 per cent cut in Internet tariffs.
``We have brought down Internet tariffs ranging from 20 to 30 per
cent in different categories. The proposed changes would be sent
to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday,''
Mr. S. Sundaresan, Director (Finance), MTNL, said.
The rates would be operational only from June 19 as a minimum
period of five days notice has to be given to the telecom
governing body.
Last week the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd had also announced 50 per
cent cut in the Internet tariffs under a `monsoon package' while
offering free access during night hours.
The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited also proposed to increase
the pulse rate of local calls from three minutes to five minutes,
Mr. Sundaresan said.
``For this we need the approval of the Department of
Telecommunication,'' he added.
