Developing mind and body

A sound mind in a sound body is an old proverb. Sports and games are a means to train both the body as well as the mind. Physical exercises keep one fit and strong and also help in co-ordination of limbs and muscles. they also develop self confidence, team spirit and leadership qualities.

Sportsmanship refers to the spirit with which one plays a game. A real sportsman will never dream of cheating, will be in good humour even when he is losing and will show greater courage when the odds are against him.

Athletics help one grow physically. It helps in muscular growth and keeps one fit. But one has to train under the guidance of an experienced coach because overdoing it may weaken the heart.

Games like football and cricket not only help with physical fitness but also teach team spirit and self control. One plays for the team not for an individual. It may be necessary to sacrifice individual goals for the sake of the team.

Korf ball is a game derived from volleyball. It was developed by a Dutchman in 1902. This is the only game in which the teams consist both boys and girls. The rules of the game ensure that there is no rough play and encourages healthy interaction among the sexes.
