Things we did
Iremember the days... hours of studying, netball and throwball
matches, wet uniforms, strict teachers, pretty teachers, handsome
brothers of my friends, understanding parents, nosey neighbours
and best of all my friends.
Those years are long past. We have drifted in different
directions. We have become wives, mothers, aunts and maybe even
on the threshold of becoming grandmothers.
I hear everyone talk of this new millennium. "Change" is the
catch-word. I look around and see children making the same
errors, fight the same wars in school; fall in and out of love as
I did; make faces at teachers like I did; hero-worship stars;
lick lollipops; fight with siblings - as I once did.
Nothing has changed. Why, even my friends are the same. We meet
regularly once or twice a month. We talk, fight, sing, tease one
another, reminisce about school days and play pictionary. The
only difference today is we take our children along. At such
gatherings, our children see us in a different light. They are
amused .We forget our age and behave like youngsters. My daughter
looks on, moves away with a smile.
