Solomon Islands' PM resigns
HONIARA, JUNE 14. The Prime Minister of the Solomon islands, Mr.
Bartholomew Ulufa'Alu, resigned today, saying it was done under
duress but that it would pave the way for peace between warring
factions in the south Pacific nation.
He outlined a peace plan, in which a new committee of six
opposition lawmakers and six members of the Government would meet
with rival islanders to try and negotiate a settlement, hopefully
within 14 days.Parliament would then elect a successor.
