Teacher recruitment schedule announced

WARANGAL, JUNE 14. The Primary Education Minister, Mr. Kadiam Srihari, here on Wednesday released the schedule for completing the District Selection Committee (DSC) - 2000 recruitments for 32,000 Government teacher posts in the State.

A striking feature of the recruitment process is that unlike in previous years, there be will no interviews for candidates who qualify in the written examination and instead weightage will be given for 15 per cent marks based on formal educational qualifications, Teacher Training Course (TTC) and B.Ed. qualifications, age and experience as vidya volunteers. The remaining 85 per cent marks are earmarked for performance in the written examination.

Another feature is that the applications of the candidates will be screened on computer to arrive at the allotment of marks for the 15 per cent weightage and such marks will be indicated in the hall-tickets well before the candidates appear for the written examination.

Mr. Srihari, who announced the schedule at a press conference, said the decision to go ahead with the DSC was taken after a meeting of the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, with the Finance and Education Ministers and officials last evening. The Chief Minister gave the permission for the DSC despite not so healthy financial position of the State as the Government was committed to improving standards of primary education.

According to the schedule released by Mr. Srihari, the notification will be released on June 30 from which date the applications will be sold for Rs. 100 each. The last date for receipt of filled applications is July 14 and the written examination for the posts of Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs) will be conducted on August 7 and for School Assistants on August 8.

The results will be declared on August 22 and the appointment orders will be issued by respective Collectors, who are chairmen of DSC at the district level, by August 30.

The Minister said the Government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs. 40 crores towards meeting the stipends of selected candidates in the first year. They would get the regular payscales from the second year.

In the schedule announced by the Minister, there are 27,308 posts of SGTs, 1,742 posts of School Assistants, 2,477 language pandits and 408 physical education teachers (PETs) in government, panchayat raj and municipal schools all over the State. Among School Assistants, the allocation for mathematics subject is 518, 510 for science and 714 for social studies.

The tentative district-wise allocation of 27,387 posts of all categories only for government and panchayat raj schools is: Srikakulam - 1,490, Vizianagaram - 716, Visakhapatnam - 1,077, East Godavari - 1,075, West Godavari - 1,004, Krishna - 743, Guntur - 799, Prakasam - 915, Nellore - 845, Chittoor - 1,795, Cuddapah - 567, Anantapur - 2,114, Kurnool - 1,042, Mahboobnagar - 1,543, Ranga Reddy - 1,628, Hyderabad - 967, Medak - 1,832, Nizamabad - 839, Adilabad - 1,254, Karimnagar - 1,661, Warangal - 1,474, Khammam - 886 and Nalgonda - 1,221.

The allocation of 4,548 posts for municipal schools is as follows: Srikakulam - 141, Vizianagaram - 280, Visakhapatnam - 362, East Godavari - 460, West Godavari - 408, Krishna - 450, Guntur - 818, Prakasam - 162, Nellore - 159, Chittoor - 368, Cuddapah - 191, Anantapur - 497 and Kurnool - 252.

The Minister said an orientation programme for the newly selected teachers would be held on September 7 and 8.

On the withdrawal of interviews in the selection procedure, Mr. Srihari said it was done to maintain transparency in view of complaints that the discretionary powers of officials and leaders were misused to favour a few candidates.
