5 killed, 53 hurt as buses collide

CHITRADURGA, JUNE 14. Five persons were killed, and 53 injured, when two buses collided on the Challakere road at Balenahalli, 15 km from here, around 12.20 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Hanumappa (45), driver of one of the buses which was on its way from Bellary to Shimoga, was among the three reported to be in critical condition. The others were Mr. Basha (40) of Chitradurga and an unidentified woman. Police gave the names of two of those killed as Mr. Paramesh (45), driver of the second bus which was going to Challakere from Chitradurga, and Ms. Revati (45), whose husband, Mr. Suryanarayana of KHB Colony in Chitradurga, was injured.While four of the victims died on the spot, Ms. Revati died on the way to a hospital in Chitradurga.The following are the names of some of those injured from outside Chitradurga District: Dr. Bhushana, Assistant OPD professor, and Mr. Prakash (23), both from Bellary; Mr. Sangameshwara (32), an engineer, Ms. Nagalakshmi (29) and Mr. Tipperudrappa (40) from Bhadravati.
