Why should I quit: Azhar
V. V. Subrahmanyam
HYDERABAD, JUNE.16. Azharuddin sees no reason why he should quit
from the national team in the wake of Cronje's allegation.
Speaking to The Hindu late tonight, Azhar questioned the
integrity of Cronje, who by his own confession has lied
repeatedly. ``What evidential value does the statement by such a
person have?'' he questioned.
``Cricket is my love, it is my passion. Why should I leave the
sport just because someone has suggested that?''
Significantly, he stood by his comments in a local English daily
in which he stated that he was being victimised as he hailed from
the minority community. ``I definitely believe that there is a
deep-rooted conspiracy to defame me and see that I am out of the
Indian team,'' he said.
``It is stupefying why the media always singles me out when
allegations were also made against others,'' he asked. ``I am not
a cheat and will never be one,'' he said in reply to another
query.
