Draskovic shot at
PODGORICA (YUGOSLAVIA), JUNE 16. The Serbian Opposition leader,
Mr. Vuk Draskovic, (53), was shot and injured during a visit to
Montenegro in an apparent assassination attempt, aides and police
said today.
Mr. Draskovic was hit in the ear and forehead when gunmen opened
fire through the windows of the house he was staying in, in the
Montenegrin coastal town of Budva, local police chief said.
The Opposition leader, a long-time opponent of the Yugoslav
President, Mr. Slobodan Milosevic, had been ``slightly injured in
the head in an armed attack,'' said Mr. Ranko Kuljaca, head of
the Budva police department.
Medical sources contacted by phone in Kotor told AFP that Mr.
Draskovic had been treated in the hospital, but was later
discharged.
In Belgrade, Mr. Draskovic's Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO)
described the attack as ``another assassination bid'' against
him.
There was no information on the assailants and no arrests had
been made.
