Solomon Islands to elect new PM on June 28
SYDNEY, JUNE 18. The Solomon Islands Parliament will meet on June
28 to elect a new Prime Minister, leaving the troubled Pacific
nation rudderless for atleast another 10 days, reports from
Honiara said today.
The Governor-General Sir John Ini Lapli said Parliament would
reconvene on Wednesday - the last possible day in a two-week
schedule laid down by the outgoing Prime Minister, Bartholomew
Ulufa'Alu, when he resigned last week.
Nominations will open on June 23 and close on June 26 to find a
candidate suitable to both parties in the ethnic conflict that
has left 60 people dead since early last year. Sir John told the
Solomons Islands' broadcasting corp.
