China lauds Nambiar's stint
BEIJING, JUNE 28. China has praised the Indian Ambassador to
Beijing, Mr. Vijay K. Nambiar, who left here today after
completing his term, for his role in promoting Sino-Indian
relations.
``We hereby express our appreciation and gratitude to him for
what he has done,''the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson's
office said.
Mr. Nambiar, who has been appointed High Commissioner to
Pakistan, is expected to assume charge sometime in August. He was
seen off at the airport by officers and staff of the Indian
embassy here.
Meanwhile, Mr. Shiv Shankar Menon, who has been named the new
Ambassador to China is expected to take charge here before August
15. He is currently the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka and
is no stranger to China as he has earlier served in that country
twice, from 1974 to 1977 and from 1986 to 1989.
