Sharif's application dismissed

ISLAMABAD, JUNE 28. A full Bench of the Sindh High Court, headed by Chief Justice, Mr. Syed Saeed Arshad, has dismissed an application filed by Pakistan's deposed premier, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, challenging the formation of a full bench to hear appeals in the PIA hijacking case in which Mr. Sharif has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Mr. Sharif challenged the reconstituted Bench of the High Court hearing the appeal against his conviction. Earlier, the Government set up a two-member Bench and then increased the number of judges by one. Mr Sharif's lawyer wanted to know the reasons for appointing a new bench.

On Tuesday, the Court also fixed August 15 for a regular and simultaneous hearing of three appeals against the verdict of the anti-terrorism court.
