U.N. staff members shot in Baghdad
ROME, JUNE 28. Two United Nations staff members were shot dead at
the mission of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation in
Baghdad on Wednesday after a man entered the office and the army
then stormed the building, the FAO said. Mr. Nick Parsons, head
of media at the Rome-based agency, told Reuters: ``We believe one
man took over the office. The army sealed it and a decision was
taken to storm the office. There was shooting, we don't know whom
from, and two members of staff, one international and one local,
were shot dead. ''We understand others, maybe two, are in
hospital with serious bullet wounds,`` he added. There was no
immediate word on the identity of the man or what his demands
were.
