Soulful experiment
``YOU AND Me'', a thematic feature, was presented by dancer
Srikanth through the idiom of Bharatanatyam. The programme was
organised by Alliance Francaise, in collaboration with Banque
Nationale De Paris and Koothu-p-pattarai Trust.
Srikanth, a versatile dancer was in complete control of the
different emotion. The invocatory Alaippu depicted the elements
of Nature accompanied with the thathakaram, recited by Vijay
Madhavan. The numbers, ``Marakata Manimaya'' of Oothukkadu
Venkatasubbier, ``Kuru Yadu Nandana'' (Ashtapadi),
``Ettaikkandu'', the traditional padam with inclusion of verses
from Tiruvaimozhi, described the varied aspects of Divine and
inter-personal relationships that the human soul experiences in
the path of the existence and survival. While the episodes of
Lord Krishna and His Divine grace were aptly elaborated by
Srikanth with his fine grip over the nuances of abhinaya, he
excelled in his portrayal of Radha and Krishna in the Ashtapadi.
The `mother and daughter' sequence set to traditional padam, was
refreshing.
A. S. Murali gave fine vocal support, accompanied by Vijay
Madhavan (nattuvangam) and Nellai Balaji (mridangam).
Srinivasan's sketch of the Behag prelude on the violin was
noteworthy while Raghavaraman provided melodious support on the
flute. Koothu-p-pattarai was in charge of the lights and mike and
V. V. Ramani had designed the simple, tasteful costumes for
Srikanth.
