Widespread rain in State
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JUNE 30. The low pressure area moved inland and lay
over south-east Madhya Pradesh and the adjoining Telangana region
on Friday evening. According to the Hyderabad Meteorological
Centre, it was likely to move in a north-westerly direction and
gradually weaken.
With the South-West monsoon being active under its influence,
there was widespread rain in all the three regions of the State.
The chief amounts of rainfall received were as follows: Vikarabad
10 cm; Kurnool, Mahabubnagar 9 cm each; Jurala, Hanamkonda,
Nirmal, Prattipadu 6 cm each; Bapatla, Addanki, Narsampet 5 cm
each; Nandigama, Matkal, Mantralayam, Sattenapalli 4 cm each;
Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Avanigadda, Palair Bridge, Cumbum,
Yellamanchili, Narsipatnam, Jammalamadugu, Metpalli and a few
other places 3 cm each; Ongole, Dhone, Srisailam, Eturu Nagaram,
Gooty, Gudiwada, Kandukur, Peddapuram 2 cm each; Anantapur,
Cuddapah, Koilakuntla, Allagadda, Bhimavaram and many other
places 1 cm each.Moderate to heavy rain has been forecast for
Saturday at many places in Telangana and light to moderate rain
at a few places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Isolated heavy
rainfall is likely in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Medak and
Khammam.
Meanwhile, major reservoirs have not gained much during the one
month of monsoon. Srisailam and Singur projects, however, have
started receiving inflows. An inflow of 6,030 cusecs is joining
Singur, building up the storage in the reservoir and holding out
a promise for the capital city. The Singur level rose to 1709.32
ft showing a storage of 18.2 tmc ft compared to the 30-tmc ft
maximum capacity at full reservoir level of 1717.85 ft.
Srisailam is receiving inflows at 3,080 cusecs. The level now
stands at 781.1 ft with the total quantum at this point being
41.24 tm ft as against FRL at 885 ft (308 tmc ft).
Nagarjunasagar continues to be a sleeping giant with complete
stoppage of discharge from Srisailam. Its inflow is meagre at 51
cusecs.
