GUWAHATI, JUNE 30. The overall flood situation in Assam improved today with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries receding as the death toll rose to seven with nearly seven lakh people of 1613 villages affected and crops in 50,000 hectares damaged.

``With report of two more deaths in Darrang district the official death toll has risen to seven'', the State Revenue Minister, Dr. Zoii Nath Sarma, told PTI here.

The Minister said the unofficial death toll of 11 as reported by the media could not be confirmed from the districts.

The Minister said that the Government has released Rs. 22 crore Calamity Relief Fund for the affected people.

In Kokrajhar district where the situation had deteriorated last week, the level of the tributaries was receding and flowing below the danger level.
