Privilege move against Laloo

PATNA, JULY 1. The Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Mr. Sushil Kumar Modi and the BJP MLA, Mr. N. K. Sinha, have given a notice of breach of privilege of the House against the RJD Chief, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav and the Law Minister, Mr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan for misleading the House about the conduct of former Chief Minister, Mr. Nitish Kumar, in ordering release of a life convict on parole who later absconded.

The notice was today submitted to the Assembly Secretariat urging the Speaker, Mr. Sadanand Singh, to initiate action against Mr. Yadav and Mr. Khan.

Participating in a debate on June 26 in the Assembly on recent Miapur massacre, Mr. Yadav and Mr. Khan had charged Mr. Nitish Kumar with ordering the release of Ram Vinay Sharma, convict of the Parasbigha carnage in early 1980s, on parole without completing formalities following which he was absconding.

Sharma was convicted in the case and was serving life term before his release on parole.

In their notice, copies of which were released to the media here, Mr. Modi and Mr. Sinha alleged that RJD president came into contact with the criminal in Beur jail where Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav was incarcerated in a fodder scam case and it was the Rabri Devi Government which had initiated the proceedings for Sharma's release on parole.

It said Sharma had applied for release on parole to attend his daughter's marriage on March 6 following which the application was forwarded by the Beur Jail Superintendent to the Inspector General of Prisons, who sent it to the police superintendent of Jehanabad, the native district of Sharma, for verification.
